Constructor and Stripe launch Agentic Checkout so AI shopping assistants can find and pay in one chat

Product discovery firm Constructor has integrated Stripe so shoppers can get AI recommendations and pay, including with Link, inside a single conversation.

What changed

Constructor, a company that builds AI product search and discovery for retailers, has integrated with Stripe to offer what it calls Agentic Checkout, American Banker reported on 13 October 2026. The aim is to let an AI shopping assistant both recommend products and complete payment within the same conversation, instead of handing the shopper off to a separate checkout page. The work is split between the two firms. Constructor handles discoverability: its reasoning engine learns from a shopper's behaviour across a retailer's channels and returns in-stock suggestions in answer to open questions, such as what to wear to an autumn wedding outdoors. Stripe provides the payment step, including its Link wallet, which it says has more than 250 million users. Stripe declined to comment to the publication, and Constructor said it has not ruled out working with other payment or banking partners. The launch reflects a wider move in agentic commerce. Klarna and JPMorganChase are also building discovery tools for merchants, and payment companies want to be present at the moment a shopper decides to buy. Analysts quoted in the report argued that retailers should learn to recognise legitimate AI agents and make their catalogues readable to them, rather than blocking all automated traffic as bots. For online merchants, the practical point is that discovery and payment are starting to merge. If an assistant can both choose a product and pay for it, the quality of a merchant's product data and its support for saved-credential wallets such as Link will decide whether it is picked at all. No pricing, rollout dates or named retailers were disclosed.

What merchants must do

If you use Constructor or Stripe, ask both about enabling Agentic Checkout and how agent orders will be flagged in your reporting. Make sure live inventory, pricing and product attributes are complete and machine-readable so AI assistants can recommend your items. Check that Link and other saved-credential wallets are enabled, since they carry agent checkouts without card entry.
