Mastercard and BVNK launch a platform that lets stablecoin balances be spent at Mastercard merchants
Mastercard's first product since buying BVNK combines fiat and stablecoin accounts, cards and payouts in one API, with Nuvei and Marqeta among early integrators.

What changed
On 15 October 2026, Mastercard and BVNK launched the Global Money Platform. It is the first major product since Mastercard agreed in August to buy the stablecoin infrastructure company. Through one API, banks, fintechs and large businesses can offer accounts that hold fiat currency and stablecoins together, convert between them in real time, issue linked cards and send local bank payouts through Mastercard Move.
The part most relevant to merchants is spending. Holders of these accounts can pay with stablecoin balances anywhere Mastercard is accepted, which the companies describe as hundreds of millions of merchant locations. The conversion happens on the issuer side, so for the merchant the payment arrives as an ordinary Mastercard card transaction. Card issuing is available in more than 130 countries. Payouts through Mastercard Move are due to expand to more than 40 currencies across 200-plus countries and territories in 2027.
Nuvei and Marqeta are among the first integrators, alongside Ontop, Beem and Almond FinTech. The platform is available now through BVNK. Support for AI-agent-initiated commerce and tokenised deposits is planned, but no dates have been given.
For online merchants, the launch shows that the networks expect stablecoin spending to reach checkout through existing card acceptance rather than through new crypto payment buttons. Merchants should not need new integrations to accept these cards. However, sellers that pay many suppliers or marketplace sellers abroad may find the payout and multi-currency treasury features useful. With Nuvei integrating early on the acquiring side, stablecoin settlement options may also start appearing in acquirer contracts.
What merchants must do
Ask your acquirer, especially if it is Nuvei, whether it plans to offer stablecoin settlement or treasury options through the platform If you run marketplace or supplier payouts, compare Mastercard Move stablecoin-funded payouts with your current cross-border costs
