Amazon Pay India is the India-specific Amazon Pay business, run by Amazon Pay (India) Private Limited, an RBI-authorised prepaid payment instrument issuer that also received RBI payment aggregator authorisation in February 2024. Amazon Pay Balance is its stored-value wallet, topped up by UPI, card or net banking and spent on Amazon.in and partner apps such as Swiggy and Uber. Amazon Pay UPI pays from a bank account linked in the Amazon app, and the service also handles mobile, DTH and utility bill payments. Amazon Pay UPI launched in 2019 and passed 100 million customers in August 2024.
