About
Uni5Pay+ is a mobile wallet in Suriname run by Unified Payment Platform Suriname (UPPS), set up by Southern Commercial Bank, Surinaamse Postspaarbank and operator Telesur on UnionPay technology. It launched on 5 August 2019, and UPPS calls it the country's first mobile payment system. Users hold a balance in Surinamese dollars (SRD) or US dollars, top it up with cash at recharge points or by bank transfer, and pay by scanning a merchant's QR code. The app also pays EBS, SWM and Telesur bills, buys Telesur and Digicel airtime and sends money to other users, with no bank account needed.
